China Drywall Recall Information
Get Ready for a Remarkable Inconvenience and High Cost!
People in Florida, Mississippi, Texas, and Louisiana are already seeing the effects of cheap imported drywall (mostly from China) that contains toxic chemicals. You may not know that this drywall was also used in California, Nevada, and Arizona at the same time, but may not be releasing fumes because these western states are not as humid, and therefore the impurities in the sheetrock are not yet active. This kind of drywall may still need to be replaced, and if so it is going to cause a major disruption in your life. Consider that just about every interior wall in your house is covered in plasterboard, AKA drywall or sheetrock. If your home was build with some China drywall and some regular drywall, the only way to tell the difference is to remove it all! Your ceiling also may be made with sheetrock! Therefore, the drywall recall process is going to involve taking everything out of your house, storing it, moving somewhere else for a few weeks, and having professionals gut your interior. If you spent a lot of time and money on painting and interior design, then you need to do it again! If the drywall has damaged your wiring, you have to buy new copper wires, and probably have to get a new air conditioning coil! Toxic drywall from China and the recall nightmare has already prompted several class action lawsuits and attorneys are working on helping people pay for the laborious remediaiton process that comes with recalled wallboard products from China. People are also reporting health problems from bad drywall, so this will likely be a part of litigation in the future.
